Alex has a good post about internationalizing your app from the start which is something I’ve always felt should be an advantage for work being done in Montréal, most of us here speak two languages, at least enough to be able to think off and test our stuff in two languages, adding others is then pretty easy for a volunteer or a quick hire to go through the translation files.
Once you’ve got french and english going, spanish, italian, portugese, german, etc. Should be pretty “easy” going. I’m sure there are a number of issues with most asian languages that require more work but even with only the “similar” languages, that’s quite a sizable market you can add right there.
