Spotted an article in La Presse today talking about the Réseau québécois de calcul de haute performance. Here it is on Bénéfice.net (not linking to Cyberpresse, they suck). RQCHP bought a new supercomputer, they payed 33 million bucks (CA) for it and it will eventually (as in sometime in 2005) reach a speed of 3 teraflops. Late last year Virginia Tech built a Teracluster for 5.2 million (US) and it was clocked at 10.28 Teraflops. It is now officially the third fastest supercomputer in the world. Is it just me or is the RQCHP getting a very bad deal?
