At least with his earlier stuff, i was always amazed how much Coupland (or at least the characters in his books) thought like I did. It was if they stole ideas right out of my head.
His newer novels have two-dimensional characters on purpose, I think. He’s consciously reminding you that you’re reading a novel, the same way that David Lynch made Twin Peaks as parody of a cheesy soap opera (referencing Peyton Place, in particular) with a darker, dreamlike center.

Et Nicolas n’a pas grand chose à envier à Douglas Coupland en terme d’écriture! (Bon ce n’est QUE des chroniques, mais elles sont toujours le fruit d’une observation savoureuse!)
