New Apple Goodies

You’ve probably already seen it in a lot of places but I’ve got to mention it anyway, wouldn’t be an Apple cultist if I didn’t. So yeah, a few new products from Stevo.

Love the all aluminium Shuffle with the clip. It’s so small at first sight I thought it was a remote, not the shuffle! I’m unenthused about the new colored “back to mini” nano, might like them more when I see them in person.

The new iTunes 7.0 is super elegant, loads of nice little tweaks and details. They’re bugging me with the menu items for tv shows and movies which we can’t get here but whatever (duh, you can disable those in prefs.).

They also launched the new movie store in iTunes with only movies from Disney and subsidiaries (Pixar, Touchstone, Miramax) and only in the US. We’ll see how that catches on and how much catching it takes to convince other studios. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait a year before it moves up north.

One more thing; they announced iTV (to be renamed) for Q1 2007. When I first heard of it I thought it was a new kind of Mac specifically for the living room but it seems to just be a streaming box that plugs into your tv and sound system. Cool and I need something like that but seems a bit steep at $299.

It is pricey, but it’s got some features that no other box has had to date, namely an HDMI connector, which implies that it’s capable of displaying HD content. The question remains open whether it supports the HDCP copy-protection scheme and if/how that’ll be implemented in iTunes.

which reminds me, the bigger unanswered question is, will they let you burn backups of your movies? or even DVDs?

Yeah, I was also un-impressed with the new color nanos… Why get rid of their trademark white one?

hdcp: In the presentation Jobs mentioned it’s the exact same DRM as the tv shows, dunno what that is exactly but you can probably find the answer there ;)

nano: I think they went back to aluminium to get rid of scratches and once there just couldn’t resist colors. Also notice that the black is only available in 8Gb, similar idea as for the MacBook, might just be a way of differentiating the most expensive one and help its sales…
