AOL released search data and then pulled it back after privacy concerns were raised and rightly so, the NYT has already identified one of AOL’s users using her search data. The important part of this story is not that AOL made a huge blunder but rather that all search companies have such amounts of data, and more. Some of us already knew this and were worried about it but maybe this higher profile dumbass move will raise awareness and lead to changes. Not holding my breath on that one though.
