AOL Time Warner isn’t doing that well but big media mergers are still happening, this time GE are putting their NBC assets together with Vivendi’s Universal Studio to create a new entity that will include NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, Telemundo, Universal movie and TV studios, USA, Sci-Fi and Trio as well as several theme parks.
With the rise of Tivo devices and broadband I keep thinking that within a few years we will order tv shows and some movies directly from the creators, one at a time. I’m not sure big conglomerates like these will be required or at least succesful, especially with the numbers they usually have to put up for investors to be happy, we’ll see.
