Westerns

Seems like a small wave of westerns might be starting. First off Kevin Costner will hopefully get back in his Dances with Wolves form and do a good job with Open Range, the trailer looks promising, I’m especially looking forward to it because of the excellent Robert Duvall and Annette Bening.

Then ladies favorite Aragorn err Viggo Mortensen is riding horses again, this time in Hidalgo, a western set in the Sahara and based on “The true story of Frank T. Hopkins, one of the greatest long-distance endurance horse riders”. I hope it’s good but I dont know… seems like they’re packing a lot of different things in there. We’ll see.

Have there ever been any Canadian westerns? Any Quebec westerns?

I cant think of any but I’m sure there are Canadian westerns although they probably are about mounties and snowy mountains instead of deserts and Texas Rangers. No reason why there wouldnt be.

I’d be very surprised if there were Quebec westerns although, come to think of it, I guess it depends on what your definition of a western is. If it requires cowboys and duels at sunset then maybe not but if it’s the time frame and wild frontier you are looking for I guess “Black Robe’:http://us.imdb.com/Title?0101465 could almost fit. Pretty early (17th century) for a western but you have the frontier and native americans…
