Just got back from viewing The Russian Ark. Visually stunning, impressive technical achievement, fascinating lesson on a slice of Russian history. The costumes are unbelievable, the Hermitage museum makes for a more spectacular movie set than any production designer could imagine but… well, although it’s a must see, ultimately it’s kind of boring. Well worth the price of entry (although I got a free ticket, thx J :), it’s a bit like a gorgeous painting from the Hermitage; enjoy the visual spectacle, but dont expect to be very entertained.
