Somehow I’d never heard of Juan Enriquez but his talk at Poptech is fascinating. Lots of interesting data and thoughts on the varying number of countries, falling empires, trends in those fields, how states develop ideas of independence, separate, etc. He even uses Québec as an example of how close a country “like” the US was to following that trend and seems to have the same understading of “Je me souviens” as Hugh talked about.
One of the most surprising numbers (to me anyway); no US president has ever been buried under a flag with the same number of stars as the one he was born under. Heck of a reminder on how much and how quickly that country changed and how it can still change.
