A couple of new trailers at Apple.com, first one is for The Last Samurai and because Tom Cruise is usually in action movies that make sh*t loads of money I’m always a bit sceptical of his chances for an Oscar but the fact they are releasing it end of year usually means they are fishing for nominations, or for the big x-mas movie spending but it’s not a christmassy movie. Since it’s a period piece I’m sure the set and costume designers will have good chances, we’ll see about Tom.
If Last Samurai is kind of “on the line” datewise between big money christmas and oscar contender, Cold Mountain is certainly placed there for the statues. I already knew Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renée Zellweger were in there but I didn’t realise the lineup also included Natalie Portman, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Giovanni Ribisi. Pretty impressive cast.
