Then there is a whole group of people who feel that social media is something more fundamental than simply a marketing tool. Some people believe that social media is not a channel to sell things but it is something that should be used purely to engage with your customers. An extension of ethics – something so core to your business that you should be just “doing it” and not thinking about what you get back from it. I’m of the mind that it’s a pretty diverse platform; you can use it to sell just as well as you can use it to listen.

Polizei

Something I already knew but that was much reinforced throughout the last two and a half months, especially in Germany; European police are frickin’ scary! Forget the short women we have here and the somewhat relaxed demeanor and uniforms. Over here it’s army like dress and kit, guys usually my size (6’2”) and up with broad shoulders and serious/menacing faces and who come out in numbers pouring out of vans at any sign of the slightest trouble. Don’t fuck with the pOlice.

Behavioural Innovation

Umair Haque is probably the closest thing to a maître à penser I have right now. His examples in this presentation are, like the ones Malcolm Gladwell uses, sometimes too simplified or tweaked to better fit his theories but they don’t invalidate what he is saying. Some fascinating stuff about innovation and the 21st century economy.
